Medium porosity hair is the most balanced of the three porosity types — it absorbs moisture well, holds it effectively, and responds to a wide range of products. Medium porosity hair has a cuticle layer that opens and closes with relative ease, allowing moisture in and keeping it there longer than high porosity hair. This makes it the most forgiving porosity type, but it still requires consistent care to maintain its natural balance. The biggest risk is disrupting that balance — either through too much protein, which causes stiffness and brittleness, or too much moisture without enough structure, which leads to limpness and breakage.
